Every one of our products is still hand crafted, from the spreading of jam to the piping of chocolate. This might take a little longer but we believe you get a much better product for it. Feedback from food lovers across the land and a host of product awards tells us we’re on to something.
We’ve always believed in buying locally, long before the idea of ‘food miles’ was invented. Our Cheddar is from a family-run dairy farm only six miles away, we buy our flour from the award-winning Shipton Mill up the road and our sandwiches are made with local chutneys, free range egg and farm assured ham.
Stories and trade secrets passed on by our ancestors provide a wealth of artisan know-how. With four generations and five family members at the bakery, we have decades of baking experience and just as many family recipes. We hope one day we’ll pass the reins over to the fifth generation. One step at a time…
A pet hate of ours is food waste. Back in the 1930s we used to feed our pigs any left-over bread. Today we have a much better solution, donating all our surplus daily goods to a fantastic charity called Fareshare who distribute it among the homeless and disadvantaged members of our local community.
